Channel shape compared to double-T shape has only one flange at each leg, and the flanges are situated only at one wall side. Typical size of channel shaped bars, as for the double-T shaped ones, indicates height of the cross-section in centimeters. General-purpose channels are manufactured under GOST 8240-72 with inner surfaces of legs 10% inclination and with parallel leg surfaces. The range includes 44 channel standard sizes beginning from No.5 to No.40 with H/B ratio = 1.56÷3.47. Channel cross-section with parallel leg surfaces are marked with P suffix. Under TU 14-2-204-76 channel thin-gauge shaped bars with parallel legs No.12 to No.30 with Н/В ratio = 4.0÷4.6 are rolled.

Channel shape bars are made mostly of carbon steels and low-alloyed steels of commercial quality.
