Galvanized steel sheet is produced up to 2300 mm wide, 0.15 – 4.5 mm thick. It is mainly used in construction industry and in agricultural machine-building. The automobile building industry is also a significant consumer of galvanized sheets.

Half of parts of a car body are made of galvanized steel sheets more than 1 mm thick, 1.8 – 2.0 mm thick steel sheets are used in transport machine-building (railroad carriages). The thickest galvanized steel sheets are used in shaped form for production of heavy self-loaded structures, arc building structures, and drain pipes.

Thin galvanized sheets are widely used in automobile building industry, in production of wall panels of industrial buildings, aircraft shelters, warehouses, garages, and in painted state — for manufacturing of furniture, casing of instruments, suitcases, refrigerators etc.

Under GOST 14918-80 galvanized thin-gauge is classified by application into the following groups: for cold forming (HSh), for cold shaping (HP), for coating (PK), for general purpose (ON). HSh category galvanized steel by ability to be drawn out is classified into the following groups: normally drawable (N), deeply drawable (G), extra-drawable (VG).

International standard ISO 3575-76 provides production of the following types of galvanized steel sheets: industrial (quality 01), for roofing locks (quality 02) and three deformation qualities: 03 — for forming, 04 — for deep drawing, 05 — special deoxidized (non-ageing) steel for deep drawing.

Under GOST 14918-80 galvanized steel sheets are made of carbon cold-rolled steel with the following chemical composition: of commercial quality under GOST 9045-80 or under GOST 380-71, quality steel GOST 1050-74 or GOST 9045-80. HSh group VG steel is made of 08kp or 10kp grade steel under GOST 1050-74, or 08kp or 08Yu under GOST 9045-80.

Rolled steel of HP and PK are made of St3kp grade steel under GOST 380-71; other steel grades can be used instead under agreement with the customer.
